What is Gattrell Brown?

Gattrell Brown is a UK men's underwear brand. We make two styles, The Original Trunk and The Signature Boxer, from 100% cotton fabric, with no polyester or nylon blended in. The look of the brand comes from two coastlines that matter to us: West Wittering in West Sussex and the island of Grenada.

Is Gattrell Brown underwear 100% cotton?

Yes. The fabric of every pair, in every colour, is 100% cotton jersey, with no polyester, nylon or elastane blended in. The only stretch is a little elastane in the waistband, which keeps it up and sits at your waist rather than against the most sensitive skin. UK labelling rules don't count an elastic waistband as part of a garment's fabric composition, but we'd rather tell you.

Why choose cotton underwear?

Cotton is a natural fibre that breathes and absorbs moisture. Its moisture regain is around 8%, compared with under 1% for polyester, so it takes up sweat and lets it evaporate instead of leaving it on the skin. It is soft, gets softer with washing, and a cotton fabric doesn't shed plastic microfibres in the wash the way polyester and nylon do.

What styles do you make?

The Original Trunk is a clean, close-fitting trunk. The Signature Boxer is a relaxed jersey boxer with a button fly. Both come in white, black, brown and green, in sizes XS to XL.

How much does Gattrell Brown underwear cost?

A single pair is £9.99, a 3 pack is £19.99 and a 5 pack is £29.99, which works out at £6 a pair.

Where can I buy Gattrell Brown underwear?

Gattrell Brown is sold online at gattrellbrown.com. We're based in the UK and deliver across the UK, to Europe and to selected international destinations.

How does the sizing work?

Our underwear is true to size. Pure cotton has less stretch than synthetic blends, so if you're between sizes we'd suggest sizing up.

How much is delivery and how long does it take?

UK delivery is £3.99, or free on orders over £50. EU delivery is £14.99 and selected international destinations are £23.99. Orders are delivered within 5 working days.

Can I return underwear?

For hygiene reasons we can only accept returns of underwear in its original, unopened packaging, within 14 days of delivery. Return postage is paid by you. If something arrives faulty or incorrect, tell us within 30 days and we'll send a replacement or a full refund, and cover the cost of sending it back.

How should I wash cotton underwear?

Machine wash at 30 to 40°C with similar colours, and wash darker colours separately the first few times. Line dry where you can, or tumble dry on low, because cotton can shrink slightly with high heat. Don't bleach.

Is cotton underwear better for men's fertility?

Sperm production works best a few degrees below body temperature, and research has linked tighter, heat-trapping underwear with lower sperm counts. A 2018 study in Human Reproduction found men who mostly wore boxers had higher sperm concentration than men who wore tighter styles. A looser fit in a breathable fabric is a sensible choice, but underwear is only one factor, and this isn't medical advice. You can read more in our Journal.

How can I tell if underwear is really 100% cotton?

Check the fibre composition on the label or the product page, not the front of the pack. Phrases like "cotton rich" or "cotton feel" usually mean a blend, and "95% cotton, 5% elastane" is still a synthetic blend. We've written a short guide to finding 100% cotton underwear.
