Our story

It started because we couldn't find a decent pair of boxers.

How it began

Every brand we tried was either overpriced, made from synthetic fabric, or both.

So we started looking into what was actually in the fabric sitting against our skin all day, and it surprised us. Most of it was polyester, nylon or elastane, which is to say plastic, worn for hours every day. We figured that if we didn't know, most men probably didn't either.

That's why we started Gattrell Brown. There was no grand plan behind it, just a wish to make something better: underwear made from 100% cotton fabric, honestly priced, for men who want to know exactly what they're wearing.

Where we come from

Two coastlines

Gattrell Brown takes its look from two places that matter to us: the dunes and pale light of West Wittering on the Sussex coast, and the island of Grenada, where our family's roots are.

What we believe

Why only cotton

The fabric

Most men's underwear has plastic in it, with polyester, nylon or elastane blended into the fabric. Our fabric is 100% cotton, a natural fibre that breathes and gets softer with every wash. The only stretch is a little elastane in the waistband, which sits at your waist, away from the most sensitive skin.

Your health

Synthetic fabric holds heat against the skin. Cotton is breathable, so it helps keep you cool and dry through the day, which is what you want from the thing you wear closest.

The planet

Synthetic clothing sheds tiny plastic fibres every time it's washed, and many of them end up in rivers and the sea. Our fabric is cotton, a natural fibre, so it doesn't add plastic fibres to the wash.
